Roast-A-Mate makes short, obviously comedic, AI-animated "roast" videos of a person you nominate, from a photograph and a few joke categories you choose. By placing an order you agree to what follows.
When you place an order you warrant that:
If any of that turns out to be untrue and it causes us loss — a complaint, a takedown demand, a legal claim — you agree to indemnify us for it.
We refuse orders — and you are not charged — where the material submitted:
Being bad at something — parking, punctuality, video games, your job — is fair game. Being crooked or dangerous is not. Where we are unsure we turn the order down; we would rather lose a sale than make something that hurts someone.
If we refuse your order, you are not charged. We take payment only once an order has passed our checks and production has started, so a refused order never leaves your account. We may decline any order for any reason. We do not decline orders on the basis of any characteristic protected by the Equality Act 2010.
If something is genuinely wrong with your video, we remake it. A genuine fault means the video is broken, corrupted, unwatchable, features the wrong person, or is not what you ordered. Tell us and we will produce it again at no cost. If we cannot put it right, you get your money back. This mirrors your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which we do not exclude.
What is not a fault: not finding the jokes funny, the mate not finding it funny, changing your mind, or the AI having drawn your friend in a way you would have drawn differently. Comedy is subjective and the videos are made automatically — that is what you are buying, and it is described plainly here before you pay. We do not refund for taste.
If we take a video down because you broke your promises in section 1 — you did not have permission, or the person was not who you said — we will remove it, but we will not refund it. The video was made; the problem was not ours.
This is a one-off purchase, not a subscription — there is nothing to cancel afterwards and nothing recurring. But because we deliver digital content, you would normally have 14 days to change your mind under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Each video is made to order and production starts within minutes, so at checkout we ask you to agree that we may begin immediately and to acknowledge that that 14-day right ends once your video has been made. Without that agreement we could not start until the fortnight was up.
Before production begins, you may cancel for a full refund by emailing us. After delivery, if there is something genuinely wrong with the video, we remake it — see section 3.
If you are the person depicted in a Roast-A-Mate video and you want it gone, email support@roastamate.com. We will remove it from anywhere we have published it, and delete the files, without argument and without asking you to justify yourself. You do not need to be the customer to make this request.
If you choose public delivery, we may post the video on our own social media accounts and tag the person depicted. If you choose private delivery, we send it only to you and do not publish it. You may ask us to unpublish at any time, and so may the person in the video.
You keep the right to share the video you have bought. We keep the right to use it to promote Roast-A-Mate, subject to any takedown request.
Every Roast-A-Mate video is satire, produced automatically by AI, using a stylised cartoon character rather than a photorealistic depiction. Nothing in a video is a statement of fact about a real person, and no reasonable viewer should take it as one.
We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Otherwise our liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the order in question.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
