Roast-A-Mate is run from Kent, England. For UK GDPR purposes we are the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at support@roastamate.com.

What we collect

From you, the customer: your name, your email address, and your order details (the joke categories you ticked and anything you typed in the evidence box).
About the person you nominate: the photograph you upload, their name, their town, and any social media handles you give us.
Automatically: your IP address, used only to limit how many free style previews can be generated from one connection per day.

Why we are allowed to use it

We process your own details to perform the contract you entered into when you ordered. We process the nominated person's photograph and name on the basis of our legitimate interest in producing the comedy video you commissioned — relying on your confirmation that you have their permission. If that person objects, that legitimate interest falls away immediately and we act on it (see Your rights below).

Who else sees it

Producing a video means sending data to a small number of processors:

Cloudflare — hosting, database and file storage (UK/EU).
fal.ai — the AI image and video generation that turns the photograph into a cartoon character and animates it.
Anthropic — the AI that writes the script and checks the images, and which reads what you typed in the evidence box in order to moderate it.
Resend — sending you the confirmation and delivery emails.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

How long we keep it

The uploaded photograph is deleted after your video is delivered.
The finished video is kept so your download link keeps working, and is deleted on request.
Order records (name, email, what was ordered) are kept for six years, as tax law requires.
Style previews are cached against the image so the same photo is not re-processed, and are deleted with the order.

Your rights

If you are the person in a video and you want it gone, email support@roastamate.com. We will unpublish it and delete the files, without argument and without asking you to explain yourself. You do not need to have been the customer.

Under UK GDPR you also have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to object to our processing, and to receive a copy. Email us and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle it you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies

We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. The site stores nothing on your device beyond what is needed to show you your own style preview while you are filling in the form.

Children

This service is for adults. We do not knowingly accept orders about anyone under 18, and you confirm the person you nominate is an adult when you order.
